A new abode!

Missed my professional development seminar today because I woke up late (slept through the alarm; it was still set) in great intestinal distress. I suspect the lobster salad I had for supper yesterday, which was rather warmer than lobster salad should really be. It was an expensive call to make, as I don't get paid for the day I missed, but my body clearly needed it -- I slept 'til 1 pm after going back to bed. I felt much better this afternoon, and puttered about with some minor unpacking & less-minor moving-about of furniture.

Y'see, this weekend saw the transfer of almost all my worldly stuffs from my old residence to a nifty new apartment of my very ownest (well, technically the management company's very ownest, but you kittens know what I mean). Yay! There was much stuff and stress and help and heaving and general craziness, but it feels so so good to have my own space again after such a long sojourn in the midst of someone else's late wife's things.

So... I'm almost 100% moved! I just have to pick up flowerpots & a couple of odds & ends from my old residence, plus clean out my old car & give the key to the rental place I've sold it to. There are nifty sheer curtains keeping all & sundry from peering in through the sliding doors to my deck, and I have internet! Hooray! (E-mail for new mailing address, if you want it -- I'll not post it here.)

My new living room is huge, though most of the space is still full of boxes & bags to unpack, and the bedroom is unbelievable (and less crowded). I have my futon bed set up, with a little nightstand next to it, and my computer is on its desk now instead of the floor. Today, I put nifty sheer ivory curtains w/ a sheer blue scarf over the sliding glass doors between my living room & deck. Every window has a view of a tree, and my bedroom window looks out at a gorgeous, tall old pine tree with long soft needles. Happy druid me! I've also started funnelling my craft supplies into the closet they're going to live in. Yep, an entire closet just for yarn & floss, patterns & hooks & needles & fabric and all my jewelry-making supplies! With a whole closet left over for clothes. I've never lived anywhere before that gave me so much space in which to organize my stuffs.

I do still need to winnow said stuffs a fair bit, though. Stay tuned for give-aways as I discover all the random bits I'd stored in the basement at my old place & no longer need, the clothing from my old room that no longer fits or isn't my style, etc. etc.

Many many thanks to windtree, smallraven, arxacies, and magemindy & her fiancé for all their amazing help this past weekend, and to Ed (who's not on lj, alas!) for his help & the use of his dad's trailer.

Also got to visit goldronin in Cape Cod, which was veryvery fun! We went to the beach and picked up pretty rocks and sighed over the indescribable colors of the evening sea and sky. She introduced me to Escaflowne, too -- it's very good, and I'm fairly surprised that I'd never managed to see any of it 'til now. There may or may not have been some debate as to the relative virtues of Folken vs. Allen as yum-worthy characters. ;-)

The Cape visit also gave me the unexpected chance to meet bettywithin for the first official time, and the three of us had a lively, witty and film-quote-riddled conversation over dinner at Uno's. The steak was, alas, too peppery by far, but the company was just right. *smile*

Soon, I'll be heading west for my Great Odyssey of Visits. More on that (& prospective travel dates) later tonight.

[smile] She does now. We met ever so briefly at a convention about 16 months ago, but didn't have a chance to speak. I noticed her, and was curious to find out more, but I didn't have any context. (And I'm dead-terrified of striking up conversation out of the blue with a stranger.) I asked around and found out that Jenn knew her too, so it was onward from there.

Hopefully I'll manage to meet you one of these days as well.
